I think the entire concept of the Mattamy development in this area is hindered by this zoning change. One of the first things that appealed to me in this development was the fact that the townhomes would be built on the outside of community, this fact was pushed by the sales center. But I suppose Mattamy will act out of their own best interest.

I can't seem to get this link to open. Can someone clarify what is happening with the town houses in the development? Part of the reason we bought here was because we could be somewhat isolated from the townhouses and not have them thrown in here and there between the detached houses like our current development. Well that and the fact that the park would be so close to our house. I'm glad to see the park is actually coming along quite nicely :)

We're just nice people who happen to have bought a townhouse :D
Just joking around... it was pretty funny though, Diane and I were laughing at the Mattamy U how the guy (whoever it was) talking about the townhomes as 'common element' and it just sounded funny as we were the 'commoners'... just an ongoing joke we have.
I dont know... we even have detached houses in our common element :p

I guess having come from Scarborough where all I ever had were bad experiences with people who were forced to live in such close quarters I am more than a tad biased. In all fairness I don't want my kids to live the same life I did growing up.

Scarborough and Hespeler are like night and day.
I'm sure if people are paying 200,000 plus for a home the neighbours will not be like they are in Scarborough.
I'm from Toronto and even the worst places in Cambridge are so much better than the nice ones in Toronto.

I lived in Scarborough all my life. It's not as bad as everyone says. There are bad areas and good areas and the best anyone can hope for is to be in a good area... Much like I am hoping that this development remains a good place for a long time as we intend to stay here for the long haul.
I don't think we'll have any problems with the people living inside the development whether they own a townhouse or a large detached.
I have been reading about bored, restless and broke teenagers in Cambridge breaking into cars to get garage door openers so they can come back later when you're not around to steal anything that might be of value in your garage. They don't seem very sophisticated. Apparently they only break into cars where the doors are not locked!
I plan not to get garage door openers installed until we are settled in and all our furniture has been properly placed inside the house.
I have been having nightmares about bored drunken teenagers coming into the development from outside! I think my imagination has run away on me.

yeah, not very sophisticated...
Actually a buddy of mine plays hockey in Cambridge and had his car stolen out of the parking lot last weekend. Cops say its a pretty popular thing for bored kids / kids from the Indian reserve to do for joy rides...
but only from that lot at the arena as there is no lighting / cameras and his car was unlocked...

Scary! I'm hoping my alarm on my car will be a deterrent then. My workplace is a hot area and many cars have been stolen from our parking lots - In broad daylight sometimes!!!!

Hey Now,

What is wrong with having a few townhouses mixed in...............
My townhouse is a lifestyle choice...................and the other townhouse owners on here have been great............
Mattamy is building a community...............A community is a mix of everything...............
Perhaps if you feel that you dont want a townhouse on your street....THEN SELL YOUR HOME WHEN IT IS BUILT.....LOL
All townhouse owners are always welcome to my place anytime.........as well as the single family home owners who have always been willing to offer there suggests and opinions........

We were thinking of buying a single family home but we are both young, 1st time home buyers and don't need one. We are never home anyway lol, we have been approved for that price range but we like the Southgate End and its 1509sq.ft also the layout is one of the best i have seen.

Deonandlindsay,
I think you are mixing up thing here some Townhouse's are CO-OP’s & subsidized housing, (NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT) but of course you are going to have some bad apples living there but everywhere you go has that also you need money to buy these townhouses and a income… Don’t judge a book buy its cover and assume that all townhouse people are trouble… If you don’t like how Mattamy's setting up the site plan ask for a refund.... and pick a different lot... or you can sell it?

Yes I am a snob. I am so much better than you. I despise townhouses. Not only will I erect a fence I will top it with barbed wire and build a watch tower that will be guarded 24/7 by machine gun toting ninja's. Does that make you feel better?
This thread is getting ridiculous. The ability to misterpret words never fails to amaze me. I love the internet. I am so dumbfounded by the reaction to one post I have nothing left to say.

Now now guys, lets take it easy :) (Hands each of you a cold beer to "cool" down)
Like I've said before, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We won't agree on every discussion posted here in the forums and that's completely ok!
Mill Pond is growing to become a great community and I wouldn't want to see future neighbours feel like they cannot post a comment in fear of "offending" someone else.
