I think we got an offer from Rogers for 3 months free for internet, phone and tv. We got the offer at the Home Show in October I think? And he said it would still be valid when we moved in to just give him a call.
We want to go with Rogers for the above 3 anyhow, so that would be a bonus.
I dislike bell. I have a cell phone with them and I couldn't dream of having to deal with them for home phone, cable and internet! Plus we already own a rogers box.

We're probably going to go with Rogers, and bundle them altogether. We own a HD/PVR box already, have cell phone accts there etc. Makes sense.
I was thinking about going to http://www.riterate.ca/ for our gas
they have catchy radio ads:D

I go bell for sat and phone and wireless highspeed internet! So will most likely go that route again! But i do have a friend from rogers who could hook me up with a deal if I wanted!
the Hydro will be contracted out by Hydro One im thinking but we shall see! i dont fall for scams on natural gas as although prices are increasing it sucks to lock in for 5 years if the rate goes down then your stuck with what you agreed upon! I will see when we get there Im sure!

Hey Everyone,
I thought I would revive this old thread
I emailed Sofi and asked her who do I call for hook ups of Hydro, Gas, and Hot water tank (Reliance)
I just signed up with Cambridge Hydro for our Hydro. I was about to call Union Gas for gas hook up (As that's the number she provided) but do we have to go with them? Or do we have to go with the companies provided?
Justmed - You mentioned you'll be going with riterate. Will you still be going with them?
Thanks in advance!

as we get closer Im going to do some rate shopping and see what I can gather with market trends / anticipation as you lock in for 5 years with RR, and if the analysts say its going to go down then I dont want to be stuck.

So it looks like Union Gas (Who mattamy provided the phone number for) is charging 30.1064 cents/m3
Enbridge is charging 30.3652 cents/m3
So it would be better to go with Union Gas right?
(These rates are effective as of Jan. 1st '09 -All companies have just decreased the rates)
I'm sooo confuzzled

Enbridge is charging 29 cents per cubic metre of gas at my current house as it just went down! FYI be hesitant about locking in with any gas companies on a fixed contract as you are screwed if the rates continue to go down! Play it like the market and as long as they are down its good! Most companies want you to lock in with them at a set price for 3 years or more and you will be caught paying that price that you agree upon!
Enbridge isn't a choice in Cambridge. The gas companies are just like the cable companies, you have one or the other in an area, but not both.

Thanks for the clarification Greg.
I guess that makes my decision a lot easier haha

Since I brought up Rite rate before I did some digging and found out that the rate they give you for 5 year term is around 35 cents...
you can do a variable thing where you can lock in at a fixed rate once you feel comfortable but its still higher than the rate Enbridge / Union etc charges.
I also learned the OEB basically sets the prices on the rates the 2 companies who own the pipes charge. They dont make a profit on the actual rates, where they make a profit is on the 'delivery charge'
I think we'll be sticking with Union and not a gas marketer, as you still have to pay the delivery as RR just buys the gas from Union at a fixed rate that covers you for 5 years.

5 cents extra per cubic metre adds up over 5 years! I'm totally against gas marketers trying to scam people out of their hard earned cash!

We are going with Rogers for home phone/internet/digital cable/cell phones. Cambridge North Dumfries Hydro, Union Gas and Voxcom for our alarm.

Agreed!
I actually called Union Gas, CamHydro and Reliance but still just as easy!
Some handy information for 1st timers: (Like me!)
The Reliance Hot Water Tank will be already set up in one name (From the sales contract) that person will have to call in and "add" another name if necessary (For Example, my bf's name was 1st on the Purchase and Sales agreement from Mattamy, so Reliance only put his name down on the contract meanwhile I'm the one making all the phone calls to set everything up for the both of us. So he will now have to call in and have me authorized to make changes on the account without him) No biggie but just in case someone didn't know.
Cambridge Hydro will require a drivers license or SIN number from both people on the contract. A $30 set-up fee will also be on your 1st bill.
Union gas will require a SIN number from one person. A $250 "security" deposit would be required to open a new account. This would be paid back in 12 months, with interest. The way to waive this fee is A) Have a previous gas bill for 12 months ( I think) or B) go on Equal Billing with Pre-Authorized payments. If you chose option B, then when you get your first bill (the pre-authorized form will be included) you just minus the $250 charge from the balance. The phone number for Union Gas is 1 888 774-3111 Website: www.uniongas.com
Reliance (Hot Water Tank) bills 3 months in advance. You can chose to pay this monthly or once every 3 months I believe.
