Hey just wondering how the whole Design appointments work.
Are there 1 or 2 appointments?
If there are 2 what is the purpose of each appointment?
Thanks
My brain is a little fuzzy since it was such a long time ago. There are 2 appointments. The first one is "supposed" to be structural and the second one colors and other upgrades. The structural stuff doesn't take that long unless you're doing alot of additional things that require custom quotes so your first appointment will probably turn into structural + colors/upgrades and the second one will finalize everything.

ahh i c i c. Thanks K.C.
I have no idea what kind of structural changes I would need to make. Anyone got any examples of structural changes they made?

Do you have your design guide? The structural appointment deals with choices made from the "shape your interior" and "behind your walls" sections of the binder. The shape your interior will be specific to your model. For example I changed the main bathroom to a jack and jill, added electrical for a cooktop and wall oven, just to name a few...
The second appointment will deal with design selections for cabinets and flooring etc...
Have fun!

Just to give you an example of what you can choose at what part of the processes:
We chose the fireside gathering, rec-room ready basement, ensuite oasis and the window bench with a veiw for the master bedroom when we signed our sales agreement.
For the first design appointment we just did stuff like maple stairs with square victoria newel post and pickets, whirlpool tub, stainless over the range microwave, home theatre wiring in living room, angled upper corner cabinet, under cabinet lighting, 2 bar lights above the breakfast bar, frost free hose bibs, moved the hose bib to front of garage, added extra cable and phone jacks to all bedrooms.
For the last design appointment we chose stuff like maple hardwood floors, cabinets, handles, counter top, flush valence for under cabinet lighting, stair stain color to match hardwood floors, tile choices, home security, glass door for angled upper corner cabinet with matching interior color, pantry, deleted bath accessories in bathrooms, color and type of carpets, underpad, wall paint color, trim package, interior door selection, bath tile selection, kitchen backsplash selection, etc.
Our first design appointment was fairly fast, but they did not give us the chance to pick any of our 'color selection' type choices. We had to wait for our last appointment. The last one is by far the most fun as you really start to feel your house come together (even though it is not built yet), you can sort of visualize it at this point.
