Hello Everyone;
For those of you who have had your design appointments already, have you checked out the GE Appliance Design Centre yet that Mattamy gave you?
We just found our Design book again (It was misplaced) and remembered about it. We are thinking of making an appointment soon, but I first want to do my research on which GE appliances I would be interested and whats the going rate elsewhere to know what the savings is like.
The website is www.geappliances.ca but there is no pricing.
Hi Smart,
Did you end up upgrading your appliances. For the townhouses, we were given 3 appliances but i may upgrade the frige and stove. It would be nice to have a frige with the freezer in the bottom.
Were you given 3 appliances in the Hillcrest?
If yes, what were the charges to upgrade at the Vaughn centre? With your monterry cocoa cabinets did you use black or did you upgrade to stainless.
Did you go with the Micro/hood fan upgrade. I think it was around $500.00 with Mattamy. I am not sure what the advantage is other than it would free up counter space. Not sure if it is worth the upgrade. I could by a black microwave for under 200.00 i think.

Hi Jrb
The 34's actually don't come with appliances - You guys are lucky! However, I don't think the appliances they provide to you are top of the line - I have heard a couple people say that they spent X amount upgrading from their freebie. (In the Milton development - So I don't know what ours is offering)
We also want a bottom mount freezer. We plan on visiting the GE sales centre real soon (Once we check out prices in other regular stores) to compare pricing. We are also choosing black appliances. We like black better than white appliances. Stainless is nice but out of our budget for the first time round. (Plus the fingerprints would probably drive me up the wall!)
We did go with the GE microwave OTR hood fan through Mattamy. It's a 1.6 model I believe. I do like that it won't take up counter space compared to a counter model and I also like the fact that it has the built in fan. I'm not too much of the regular fans that normally go over the stove (personal preference) And of course, I liked the option that I can roll it into our mortgage lol. We have to spend so much when we close that one less payment up front made me happy! Overall, I think the added counter space that the microwave would've taken up is a great bonus to have.
I think OTR Microwave hood fans are in the same general ballpark compared to Mattamy's pricing - Of course Mattamy's will be a little higher ;)

I have already received a quote from Mabe (GE Appliances in Canada) and the prices were definitely good. We decided on Black Profile series pieces.
I didn't feel like driving all the way to Vaughn to look at the appliances, so I went to a local store (Goemans Appliances - http://www.goemans.com (http://www.goemans.com/)) and showed them the quote that Mabe had sent me. Goemans was happy to match the price for me. I also went to TA Appliances in Kitchener (http://www.taappliance.com (http://www.taappliance.com/)) and they agreed to beat Goemans on the deal. I would really suggest getting pricing from Mabe on the appliances that you want and then shop those prices around and see how much you can get it beaten by.
Good luck!
To any townhouse owners who've picked their appliances... Just wondering if its possible to drop the dishwasher from the deal? We dont really want it, thinking maybe get credit towards upgrades to the fridge and stove. I'd also imagine mattamy would charge me for the extra cupboard where the dw would go!

Nope, we tried this with the fridge after we found a Samsung that we liked better...no deal. They won't let you delete it to give you a credit towards the other appliances. We ended up taking the included fridge which will now be a basement drink fridge. (don't tell David Suzuki.)
Also, unless you're planning on never selling, I would think not having a D/W would be a deal breaker for many buyers...I have a D/W now and I would never, ever go back. JMHO.
Hi,
I am still not certain of the process for appliances....
I am a townhouse owner so appliances are included.
My design appointment is at the end of Feb. So, I am assuming i will get some kind of note stating that I bought a Mattamy townhouse and will receive credit towards appliances.
Sounds like I can go locally, Goemans sounds like a good solution. I will likely upgrade stove and fridge only. But I am not sure the difference I will have to pay. Appliances will likely last 20 years so I might as well explore all my options. If i can do it for a few hundred then i might as well do that.
I will have to check it out after my design appointment.

That's not exactly how it works....
You will receive included appliances from GE and those will have a value with only Mabe (the Canadian distributor for GE). Their showroom is in Vaughn? I think and you would have to upgrade with them if you wanted anything different. You would, for example, upgrade from the standard line to the Profile series.

When you get your design binder, inside is a certificate for included appliances. You can ONLY go the Mabe appliance centre in Vaughan. There, you can upgrade and they will tell you how much of a credit you will get by trading in your included level appliance. IMO, the deals were not that good, even with the credit. We ended up paying another $499 (taxes in) to get a decent d/w and stove...to upgrade to an icemaking, french door fridge would have been another $2200  (even taking into account the credit for included fridge) We ended up keeping the included fridge and buying another one outright.
I think I posted included model numbers somewhere on this forum...they are really really bottom of the line.

Thanks Anxious and Babymaeby,
Sounds like i will need to keep the appliance Mattamy is offering....LOL
A fridge with a bottom freezer would be great. ....But i guess realisitcally that will be more than a 500.00 upgrade.....lol.....It would be nice to be able to fit a pizza boax and a turkey in the freezer section......lol
