Many people moving into the community do not know the rich history of the Hespeler community. Here are a few websites to help.
For all the latest news, Hespeler related links go to http://www.hespelernews.com for history go to http://www.thecompanyofneighbours.com/
for all information about downtown, go to http://www.hespelervillage.ca/ and finally don't forget to have your kids join our two sports organizations, Hespeler Minor Hockey http://www.hmha.ca (http://www.hmha.ca) and Hespeler Minor Softball http://www.hmsoftball.com/ and finally Hespeler Tennis Club http://hespelertennis.on.ca/pages/index.php
Was the Hespeler Hotel on Queen Street? Do you have any idea who bought it?
When was the last time somebody actually paid to stay there? It looks like a hotel for vampires. :D
I'm interested to find out who bought it in case the lofts they build there don't suck. My son might be interested in buying one in the future if it's nice.

If you go to http://www.hespelernews.com you will see a photo of the new owners of the Hespeler Hotel and a link to a story about them. They have already done a fantastic job renovating the building they own ( the Java Garden is in that building) at the corner of Guelph Avenue and Queen.

I love how the article claims that the hotel is what "locals call the “biker bar”. Everyone I know who has been in Hespeler for any time calls it The 5 Star. Newer folks often call it the Cats Meow, as that was the name it had after the 5 Star closed. I really hope they can clean it up properly. I'm pretty sure that the few people who still live there are crackheads.
Hespeler has been improving so much over the past few years. I think the key to that has been getting Andre and the bikers out of the downtown core. It will be interesting to see what it looks like in a few years time.

I'm dying for an update on the Two Ladies with Stillettos Seen Downtown! - Saturday, March 06, 2010
Well, well, this should bring the police cars off Jamison and from the Tim Hortons. HN received a call from a mother who noticed downtown 2 women dressed rather.....wait for it....... unHespelerish. Seems they may have an occupation that is not fully compliant with the law. A friendly wave from locals reassured them that there stylish attire was not out of place in the downtown, more to follow.......

Maybe I watch too much "Little House on the Prairie" and need to get out more. What exactly is "adult massage" and is it legal?
At first I thought it was a police sting operation but now I'm beginning to think that I'm extremely naive.

I'm not sure which place those signs are referring to, but there's an 'adult massage' place in Galt, on Ainslie by the Food Basics (no, I don't frequent there!). It is exactly what you likely think adult massage is, and I doubt it is completely legal. Where the Java Garden is now used to be an adult massage place, and then they got busted. Just organized prostitution.

If you don't mind, I can add a few more websites to the list of hespeler info.
The Hespeler Project (http://hespelerproject.wordpress.com) is site that is gathering the nicknames of older hespeler residents and has a few story's on it. The site owner is currently on Holidays and has let it sit till later next week.
The New Hespeler Herald (http://hespelerheraldnews.wordpress.com) is a site that deals with History from around the world and story's from hespeler, it too has been on hiatus till next week.
Cooper Street Relic (http://cooperstreetrelic.wordpress.com) is a personal blog of someone who grew up in hespeler during the 60's and 70's and is full of some very interesting stuff, and like the other two sites is only occasionally updated during the summer.
To find out what others in Cambridge think you can go to The Cambridge Citizen (http://cambridgecitizen.ca) a new site that allows you the reader to post story's of your own and comment on others. thanks for your time. jimm Hillis

If you want to see some interesting history of Hespeler you can drop by the Hespeler Historical society on the main floor of the old Hespeler town hall beside the library on Tannery st.
The Staff there are full of Hespeler trivia, some great Gretzky trivia, Hespeler hockey sticks and gear, and other stuff.
