both are nice, but we felt that a lighter kitchen was too much of an country house feel to it... plus we absolutely loved the granite, and built around it.
if light makes a comeback or whatever, it would be at a time we'd probably be redoing it anyways:)

yeah, us too... we did white / ivory in the ensuite / main washrooms
but kitchens is a definite dark... went with our hardwood too
We're going dark in the kitchen and white in all of the bathrooms. If the dark goes out of style we'll paint the suckers! mind you, the model home had white kitchen cabinets and looked amazing. (Coronation model home)
I had a light finish in my last home and white in my current one, like the white better than light natural finishes but white versus dark is a toss-up.

I have white cupboards now where we rent, and honestly, they show every drip/fingerprint/etc. I have to wipe down the whole kitchen too often. I promised myself when I get my own house that I'm NEVER getting a white kitchen. Anyone else find this?
We currenty have oak kitchen cupboards that were made to look like maple with a very light custom stain. Our house was a model house. The look is beautiful but after 12 years some of the upper cabinets near the stove have a slight yellowing on them. I've tried to clean it off but some of the yellowing just doesn't come off. I can't get them restained because it would be impossible to get just the right stain to match all of the existing cabinets that are not yellowing. I called the manufacturer and they say they don't make that stain anymore.
That's one advantage the darker cabinets have. They mask small stains much better.

hands down...the dark cabinets.
I may go with a dark cabinet, just not sure what counter top I would pick. I am not sure if the kitchen floor should be a light colour to contrast a dark cabinet or should it blend in with the hardwood. I will use oak hardwood because i liked the stain colour better on the oak than on the maple.
I also am thinking of the "Cocoa Maple Mission style"
I like the tumbled marble subway tile the design centre has. Not sure how it would go with the Cocoa cabinets........I think the cost was 1100.00 for the back splash.........
I am hoping to take a couple days holidays next week so I will spend some time at the design centre...........
If anyone has any tips for counter, floor, backsplash to go with Cocoa mission cabinte please let me know.
jrb, we had our final appointment last week and Jen our consultant helped us put together something that includes the cabinet color and backsplash that you seemed to like as well.
Here's what we went with and I think it's going to look great, you may want to vary it since you have hardwood floor to work with and we don't.
Kitchen Cabinets: Included Monterey Cocoa Maple
Upgraded Hardware: Brushed Nickel Handle H017-03
Backsplash: 2 x 4 Tumbled Marble Mosaic Travertine Light
Upgraded Grout: 583 Pearl
Countertop: Included Kalahari Topaz 4588-07 (shiny counter that looks like Zodiac, very cool)
Floor Tile, Level 1 Upgrade: Anatolia Slate Beige RS002 (there seem to be a few different slate beiges, we chose RS002)
Upgraded Grout: 681 Smoke
Carpet: Included Cameo White 4414
Premium Paint: Traffic CL2843D with White Trim
I found some of the girls in the design center were not as good as our consultant was so I always double checked everything with her before I finalized it.
They charge alot for upgraded grout because they charge you per room but if you are going with upgraded tile I think it's a good idea to get the perfect grout to go with it.
In the design centre kitchen area where they keep the Canac stuff the cabinets are dark and the hardwood floor is light but I think you can go with matching floor as long as you make sure there is enough contrast somewhere else.
Thanks KC.............
I will check out all your options next week at the design center.
I think the hardwood i want to use on main floor is the "Nevada Red Oak"....
