Hi,

I upgraded to have Mirage hardwood Vienna on the first floor of my townhouse plus the hall way on the bedroom level.

I also upgraded to have hardwood on the stairs with a stain to match the vienna.

My stairs are now stained and to me they look nothing like vienna stain. Does anyone have the Vienna stain on their staircase and can tell me if this is the stain Mattamy are using to match the vienna hardwood.

I have attached pics of what Mattamy has stained. Is it possible they still have to put more stain on them.

Thanks,

K.C.

Is it possible they still have to put more stain on them.

I was in one house where it looked like they had only put one coat on and the color didn't look like it should. They had the warranty people fix it after closing. I would bring this to the attention of the construction office right away if I were you. You don't want the hassle of having your stairs stained while you are living there.

The company that does the hardwood for Mattamy seems to be doing a crappy job in alot of houses ... stairs and floors. Makes me feel glad I didn't stain the stairs ... I ran out of money ... ha! We have carpet and kept the railing natural but upgraded to Maple both going upstairs and to the basement ... there's alot of railing in the upper hall as well. They put clear varnish on. It looks really good.

Thanks K.C.

I am calling the construction office first thing tomorrow. There is no way this is vienna stain.

Smartsexy stylish has the dark stain on there rail,( I only saw pics) and i was in Fletchers house during construction and his stairs were a dark stain, and Fletchers looked nothing like this.....lol

I actually drove by Fletchers place after looking at my stairs, if they were out on the pourch i was going to ask to see their stairs again......lol

Vienna stiars update............

According to what I have heard from the construction office, first a light coat of stain is put on and then they put another coat on it...

I hope they are right.......

It is hard to believe that the stair case pic above will eventually match my vienna hardwood floors....lol

I toured Fletcher's house often and I never remember seeing a light coat of stain and then later a darker coat over top, but maybe they did......lol

I think that isnt correct! The second time is usually the varnish that they put over the stain to give it the look. If the base is wrong then what difference does the varnish make when its not the colour you ordered. Keep a eye on your stairs for chips dents etc.
Remember your the customer and your the one who has to live with it and be happy. So you control the show!:)

They put on 2 coats of stain before the varnish, as far as I know, anyway.

Hi,

I think at this point i will have to wait for the hardwood to be put down and then if the stairs dont match to raise the issue again. (prior to PDI)

The hardwood should be going in soon I think.

Thanks,

it looks like they put another coat of stain on the rails and pickets.......

The varnish coat will likely bring up the colour. Its nice to see the pic of the rails in a lighter tone and the same rail in a darker tone, great for comparison.
