those of you who got a fireplace, did you actually use it this past winter? we opted not to get the fireplace though mattamy, as its way cheaper to do post close, but I'm debating if I'll ever use it. i'm leaning more towards a nice entertainment unit insead. what do you guys think?
We plan to use ours regularly during the winter. A fireplace is included with our model. Cambridge winters seem extra cold ... we visited here a lot as our house was being built. It also depends on how much time you expect to spend in the room where the fireplace is located. At our last house we spent very little time on the main floor and almost never used it. Our great room here is very cozy and we expect to use it a lot.
I think the master bedroom is a better place for a fireplace. If they'd offered that as an upgrade I would've bought a second one.
The 3 way marble fireplace was a great selling feature when we sold our previous house. It's one of those things that everybody thinks they'll love but may not end up using it very much.

I think it's great to have as long as you get the fireplace fankit with it to blow the hot air into the room. Our great room is pretty large and it heats it up pretty quick. We look forward to it this winter although our winters might be milder since our summer has been anything but scorching hot except the past few days. :) We shall see bit I doubt it! But Im sure everyone would take a warmer winter to save on the heating bills!:)

That's a good point. We have the fan kit too and it makes a big difference. Our last fireplace did not have a fan kit and you had to be sitting right next to it to feel any heat.

We got the fireplace as well. Never had one and always wanted one. Plus it will look great under my wall mounted plasma! How much was the fan kit for the fireplace?
