you can buy one at sears for $600-$800. Apparently they're supposed to be pretty good systems.

Here is where I got mine: http://web3.userinstinct.com/51751454-ontario-soft-water.htm

$1000 with install included. Its a smart system that tracks water usage for the past 40 days to help is decide each night if it should regenerate or not.

Bought a high quality, high volume water softener from Sears. It is made by EcoWater. Got it on sale for $999 instead of list $1598. Keep an eye on their flyers for ongoing sales. I found that if you do your research you can find good deals through them but know who really makes their equipment and they price match what's out there through other dealers.

I think all Sears locations has them....it was in the flyer

one thing with Sears...if it ain't on sale this week.....wait a week and it will be onsale again.....they have a sale every week

they sometimes will give you the price from last week too if you ask

or if you what to buy something, they can look ahead to see when it is on sale next

or if you have bought something and it goes on sale within 30 days ...take your receipt in and they will refund the differenc

they are good that way

Yup...got mine at Sears a couple months ago. Was less than $700 taxes in and regularly $1049. was around 33000 grains, came with installation kit and bypass valve.

I installed it in around an hour or so with no previous experience with PEX piping. Cost me approx $90 for materials/tools for the install.

did anyone buy a water softner from Culligan. Are they any betterr than what you can get at Sears etc.

I was talking to a Culligan rep and they were saying $2361.45 installed.

Sears is good, that's where we got ours. I got quotes from Culligan too and I asked them to fax me the technical specs. The specs were missing the key information I needed to do a proper comparison and they charge mafia type interest rates. I looked up the proper specs on the internet and realized why they omit that information ... it's because they don't want you to know just how much they're ripping you off. Also their sales people are super aggressive. Change your phone number and don't answer the door!

Now you tell me K.C....lol

I was at KW home show today and that is where I was talking to the Cullighan rep. She is coming tomoroww night to discuss her quote. So I went to sears quickly to get a quote. They have a med sized one for $829.99 (33,000 graims) plus $225.00 for a new install.....plus a bit extra to run hard water to the out side taps...I dont want to go too small.

I want to ask the Culligan woman what makes there water softner better than the one sears sells. I certainly wont be paying $2361.45 if i can get one from sears for almost half of that.

My other issue is AC....K.C. where did you get your AC. I have been quoted by some comapnies at $3,000. Air Corr in town here should be able to do it almost 1000. less. I think many in the pond went with Air Corr.

We got AC from Sears and I'm sure we paid way too much for it but it was a good brand (can't recall which it is now) and they had a 3 year no interest payment plan and we were too broke to pay cash. If you don't need financing I would go with whoever everybody else is recommending if the price is good.

P.S.: the no interest financing only works if you go through the right person at Sears, don't just show up at Sears and expect no interest ... they're quite disorganized about it.

Yikes that seems really expensive compared to everyone else's experiences. We paid about $550 for ours at Home Depot and Josh installed it. It is a little one but with an 1100 sq ft house and just the two of us it is perfect.

Josh has installed many water softeners in Mill Pond. He charges $100 plus parts - usually works out to be $120 - $130 total.
