Greetings all
so Mattamy charges 250$ for potlights, and this is a rip off
this company has done alot of work in Milton after people have closed and everybody is very impressed with the results, these guys run teh wires thru the ceilings and teh walls and leave no evidence of any work being done

this is from the milton website

Ask for John, the owner
Fully licensed electrician
Fireboxes for lights on the 2nd floor
Includes wiring, potlights, switch and installation
$79/pot light main floor
$99 on the 2nd floor
$99 for outside lights (price might be different if the difficulty of doing the outside is higher than normal - usually not a problem)
As per him: He doesn't rip down drywall. Flawless fishing.
NOTE: The company is stationed out of Richmond Hill, so the farthest west he usually comes out is Woodbridge. I talked to him of the possibility of referral business in Milton, and this is what he said:
MILTON: for the prices above for a single house in Milton, as he mentioned he brings an entire crew, the minimum order has to be for 20 potlights. If less than 20, then $20 extra/light (Im pretty sure this is negotiable)
now if we can get enough people onboard I am sure he will travel to Cambridge and give us a great deal
we will be closing oin May so I would be looking to do this between June and August of 2009
let me know if anybody is interested
definitely interested. I can do 20 no problem.

I thought the $250/pot light that Mattamy was charging was an absurd amount!
At least the $79 per light is a whole lot more reasonable :)
Have you been able to get a response from mr. potlight?
TIA.

I would be interested in the deal with pot lights. Let us know if you find someone reputable in the Cambridge area who install potlights.

We'd definitely be interested in getting potlights, if you hear anything from this company let us know!

Thanks for the info. I thought that potlights were difficult to do after closing. This will save a bundle!

FYI, I spoke with him today. Apparently he was having problems with the email form on his website. He says he will come out to Cambridge at the prices and conditions noted above. He suggests calling him a month before you need the work done.

Thanks for the info Dave.
Do you know if they run the lights to a new switch or do they have to be on an existing switch?

I am interested in additional pot lights
when we bought and went to the design centre...there was no model for us to go through....so I didn't know what it would look like
I would like 6 more in my livingroom (greatroom)

we talked to an electrician and he told us that installing pot lights after the ceiling is finished is very hard....and that $79 wouldn't even come close to the final cost

I always hear mixed reviews on getting potlights done on the main floor once the ceiling is finished. I'm glad I got them through Mattamy. However potlights on the second floor will be no problem through the attic.
Has any stonehurst owner got potlights done on the mainfloor after closing yet? Because of the mixed reviews I am wondering about what is the possibility of getting it done after closing specially on the main floor and the cost of it.

many of my neighbours are now having potlights installed outdoors,,,
I thought i would want more pot lights after closing. I did 2 in greatroom and 3 in formal room through Mattamy.
I am finding that what i have is enough....lol. They are really bright and I need to get dimmers on them.
I am just using pot lights for additional background lighting, not to light the entire room.

We installed 12 potlights on the main floor (great room and kitchen) on Friday. They were on sale at Home Depot for $4.50 each(!) so including dimmer switches, wire, connectors, etc we spent about $100.
It wasn't that hard, though it did take my husband and I an entire day and left a bit of drywall dust to clean up after...but it was totally worth it because it looks amazing. Completely changes the atmosphere of the room.
So, if you're handy, don't pay Mattamy to do it for you. We figured that it would have cost 24x ($200 x 12 lights = $2400) for them to do it.
Save your money!!
I can post a picture later if anyone is interested.
I got 6 in the kitchen with Mattamy but would like to do more after if possible. It would be great to see a picture of what its looks like with 12.

So here is what it looks like with 9 in the great room...
We originally put only 3 in the kitchen but are going to do 3 more tonight so it's a bit brighter. 3x50watts for the kitchen was just a tad not bright enough.
Thankfully, the Home Depot in Milton still had a few boxes of potlights left on Sunday - Cambridge was already sold out because of the fantastic deal it was!
Hope this works, I've never added pictures before.
Looks really good...you guys did a great job

you put them in yourself?? wow great job
hubby is telling me its to hard to put them in and that I should just live with it.....now I have proof he's wrong............THANKS
Wow, looks great, how did you connect them to a switch?

The middle one of the nine was actually where the original ceiling light was, we just pulled out the octagon box behind it and kept the wire that runs to the wall switch (which I switched out to a dimmer at the same time.)
Did you drill through the joists? If so, was it difficult and what kind of distance is there between the lights?

The joists have particle board partitions with pre-scored knockouts every few feet....we managed to knock them out using copper pipe and a hammer, and then used fish tape to get the wire from one to the next.
It was a combination of Josh's smarts, my skinny wrists, and dumb luck. We were sure we might have to make some repairs to the drywall but we never really got stuck.
The joists are I belive 16 inches apart, so we went through 4 in total as the lights are 44 inches apart each (and 56" apart the other way, to be the same proportion as our room that's 16 feet by 13 feet). Then once you get 1 in that joist the other two are easy to fish down, so if you can do 3, you can do 9 just as easily.
