Thought I would start this thread about our visits to the site. You could come back here and report what you saw happening at or around the site when you visited.

Kevin and I went to the site last night to check out our foundation since we won't be up there for another 2 weeks so we made the trek after work.
Our foundation looks good. Of course out of all the foundations that were poured on our street, only our lot had to have a ladder sticking out of it! So Kevin climbed down to have a better look! We got our enlarged cold cellar. We think they may be moving our rough in and laundry area.... So I guess we'll have to check next time and see where they put it when they pour the concrete floor.
We went into a couple other lots that were being framed. Lot 168 & 169 have their shingles on the roofs and are ready to be bricked (saw the bricks out side their lots) Lot 168 was completed more than L169. Both have permanent stairs (L169 has upgraded oak stairs already in place) And I am going to assume the Hillcrest (L168) will have carpeted stairs since they are not covered like the other. Both have access to the basements. The Interior door to the garage were locked but the front and back doors we not.
I also found Lot 169's main floors to be super squeaky!

We've been meaning to get to the detached areas each time we go to the site but we get too caught up in our own house:)

Next time... hopefully it will be light enough tomorrow when we go for Mattamy U

Only when we go during the weekends is when we have time to check out other lots...
When we have to get up there during the week for meetings and whatnot is when it gets too dark to see other places!

Went by the site on Saturday and our concrete floors and garage floors are poured already!
Yay! Progress is happening fast! It was a 4 day difference that we had seen dirt floors to concrete! And they were framing above our cold cellar.

Can't wait to see if they start some more framing this week!
We're going up on Wednesday to choose our cabinets and we'll probably swing by the site and then again on Sunday to see progress of everything =)

We took a look through other houses this weekend as well before we chose our new cabinets...

a block of townhouses has been bricked, and looked to be coming up to almost finished with the wiring, the ducts were in place as well.

Really liked the looks of the brick and #"s above the garage they are using in the townhomes

I was told there was security on the site... but only until they get cameras in the Phase 2 section. I haven't seen any yet though. They only people I have seen was workers on-site and driving around.

I've only been up on weekends and one weekday... never seen security but I've never ventured up to the detached area, there are a few in the townhouse section that I've been looking at too.

I've seen lots of people driving around looking. Few who dont even own (I was talking to him and the guys license was HesplrGuy so that was a giveaway) and a few kids just walking around.

One day I saw guys doing roofing but we didnt bug them since it was on another house.

I didnt know about the cameras?

If you look, there are cameras in the Townhome sections. I don't remember exactly where, but I think closer to the construction office.

I've been up there a whole bunch of weekends and a couple of weeknights and never ran into security.
Everytime we have been to the site, there was always people walking and driving around. We've seen some kids hanging out one occasion too, and I think they were probably up to no good, but then left shortly after we arrived.

I also noticed a new sign up in the townhome section saying "$1,000.00 reward for any information of Vandalism, theft, ect) Didn't get to look at it very much as Kevin was driving fast lol Will look at it again tonight hopefully! I am hoping that sign was put up as a deterrent and not because of something happening but you never know. I know Kevin and I have seen some basement windows kicked it (don't know if it's on purpose) and we have seen some insulation with holes in it.

wonder if it has anything to do with the port-o-potties being vandalized along with something else... we know nothing to our house that we can see anyways.

may just have to camp out at our place and put our own cameras in :D

Probably be going out again this weekend for our nephews birthday and to stop by the site so I'll take a look for more.

We went by last night after re selecting our cabinets. No sight what-so-ever of a security guard on site.
Our cold cellar ceiling is framed and ready for the next steps =)
We went to lot 167 and the front door was locked. So I went through the scaffolding and debris to get to the garage entry door and see if that was unlocked and sure enough, it was! So I went to the front dopr to let Kevin and and we wandered around, flashlights in hand as it was dark. The owners must've had their framewalk already as it is all insulated now. It's coming together nice now. The tubs are also in place in the washrooms. Took a couple of photos =)
Went into Lot 168 but it wasn't insulated like the other lot. The tub was in that one also. Pretty cool. We're going to head back over on Sunday during the day to see the progress on some other houses in the area also!

We had gone by the site on Sunday afternoon and Lot 167 upstairs was fully drywalled. Super exciting since it's the same model that we purchased!
We toured through the other lots too that were fully framed, pretty cool!

Saw the security guard on site too. He was just driving around doing his thing. It didn't seem like he cared too much that we were touring the homes, as long as we weren't smoking and/or taking stuff away from the site (Makes sense!)

At one point, Silverthorne was lined up with cars and people strolling around!

Many spray painted notes on the floors to say what is going where. (Ex. 45 degree tiling, Black hood fan, Fireplace Fan Kit, ect)

Noticed the issue with our lot and luckily got it resolved yesterday! We're supposed to be receiving the lumber for our 1st floor today. So heres to crossing my fingers we have something more to look at on our lot other than the same thing for the last 2 weeks!

Hows the townhouses coming along? I haven't been by that way in a while.

Hows the townhouses coming along? I haven't been by that way in a while.

We stopped in on Saturday, workers were there so we didnt get to go in other houses other than ours.

The blocks of TH where there were framing done, the majority had roof trusses in place, some had plywood done, and some had shingles down, some venting and ductwork was in place too.

One block has almost all its brick work done, and another block was about 1/4 finished.

Ours had the trusses down, and all framed in, but nothing was really new other than our patio had been poured.

We're looking forward to seeing what brick colour our block will be.

I found out from the construction office that our brick (for Block 2) is going to be the same as block 10 (the one that's completed). Awesome because I LOVE that brick. It's called Boston. The siding will be 'sand', the roof black and the front door is 'midsummer night' which i think is a plum-brown. Love it love it love it.

Justmed - if you call the construction office (pm me for number if you don't have it) they will give you this info over the phone. Then go to www.hansonbrick.com to look it up and see the colour.

Did they not tell you guys the brick colour in advance?

babymaeby
10-21-2008, 01:58 PM
They didn't decide the brick colour for each townhouse block until after the detached in our area each chose theirs. They didn't know when we had our design appointment. They know now, but they won't tell unless you ask.

smartsexystylish

Interesting.
Funny how they don't offer up the information unless you specifically ask. You would think they don't really want to be bothered with 50 phone calls asking the same question, but I guess they don't mind.

Our 1st and 2nd floors are being completed! And our roof should be attached by the end of this week! I'm so excited!!
Our framewalk has also been pushed up since they are ahead of schedule :) We're scheduled for it in less then 2 weeks!!!
It is just sooo realistic now (It's scary!)

When we went to the site on Sunday (Yes, in the rain!! - If anyone saw a big pink umbrella walking around - That was me LOL) we were locked out of houses 167 and 168
:( Took photos from the front door! Boy did they look good inside!!! And toured around a couple other houses that are coming along well. So exciting to see the community coming together and it's only a small part!

Hey Alex,

Yea, I know Kevin and I are going to be pretty sad when we're locked out soon too :( - I'm thinking we'll be locked out in about 3 more weeks!
Since I have a couple vacation days, I am going to make appointments during the day to see the house.

They make it a point to try to lock it when the interior features are going inside! But usually they leave the garage doors open in them or dont lock the back patio doors! I enjoy seeing everything also but Im sure you would agree that later on when the upgrades like hardwood, oakstaircases, cabinets, granite etc go in you wouldnt want any complete stranger ruining anything! Believe it or not there are alot of people that were and still Are against this development!
Ive noticed they have nailed a few blocks to the subfloor to keep the front door sort of locked!

smartsexystylish
10-29-2008, 09:08 AM
Hey Frank,
We also noticed that sometimes when they lock the front doors the side and/or patio door is open and have had luck getting in. However with the drywall in, they are completely locking it. Makes sense! I am going to be sad when I am locked out but I fully agree with them doing that so my house doesn't get ruined and/or get delayed! That's why I am going to try and make some appointments with them to see the house on my days off when I am locked out.

Hi BrianNSara,

If you go afterhours or on weekends you are able to see your house through the process of being built. That being said, they will eventually lock you out of the house when they get to the drywalling part. You would then have to schedule appointments with the construction crew during the day. You can always visit your house in the evenings and weeekends but don't expect to get into it if it's locked.

They lock the houses so people can't go in an vadalize or steal stuff. As much as I want to see my house being built and oversee the whole process, I am glad that they lock the homes. This will keep delays hopefully to a minimum due to the above reasons.

I am going to try and make at least 2 during the day appointments if I can to see the house when I am locked out.

So we went to the site yesterday and wow our house is coming along quickly!
Just last week we had 2 walls up on the second floor and no access (Saw it from the street) and were still in the progress of completing the first floor. And now it has the 1st and 2nd floors framed out and our plywood roof is attached :) Soooo Exciting!!!!
The shingles are on site and should be put on this week and the Bricks should be arriving today also! Pretty cool!
We also got into Lot 167 and Lot 168 and saw them fully drywalled and everything. It was sooo cool, especially since one of the homes is our model!
Our basement is still all dug up, so I am wondering if they will have that completed for our framewalk or later. At least they will rememeber to install it since the floor is all dug up haha.
Went into a couple other homes too, and they are all coming along nicely as well. Surprising to see alot of workers on site on Sunday also. No sign of the security guard though.
Also met a couple who will live somewhat across the street from us :)

Awesome - glad you got to go, cuz we couldn't. We went last weekend (the 25th) but other than the roof, not much had changed since the last time we were there.

whoops... yeah, you are closing a week and half after us.

I took a picture of the bricks that will be going up, they were spray painted with "2" on them. I dont have it at the office though but I'll put it up tonight.

We really liked your layout too. BUt wanted the dining room.

we were torn on the fireplace and decided against it in the end.

Nope, no ducting had started, I think there were 'pieces' of ducting but just not up yet. Ours had just started and vents etc cut out. Neither of ours had any electrical done yet.

Yeah, we almost got the Ellacott - when they got to our spot in line (post-it note #47) the only Ellacott left had an ensuite - and I thought, there are only 2 of us, why should I clean 3 bathrooms?!? I also liked how on the Dickson the fireplace did not protrude out into the room like it does on Ellacott or Hespeler, I probably wouldn't have gotten the fireplace either in your case. Good decision.

Maybe we'll have to arrange carpooling!!! I work at Hurontario & Eglinton - you could drop me off at the top of the 401!!

This is our second home - with Mattamy. We bought a townhouse in Oakville and loved it, but obviously wanted to get something a little bit bigger and detached. The prices in the GTA are crazy. Heading out to Cambridge is totally worth it. Our same house in Milton (with Mattamy) is nearly $100K more! Stupid!!

We're looking forward to living in Cambridge though. Will be different; better quality of life!

I couldnt agree with both of you more. A Mattamy townhouse in Milton was starting for around $150000 when I bought about 7 years ago, now towns start at $296000! I had a 1500sq ft semi that I bought for $189000 and sold it 2.5 yrs later for $270000. Back in 1979 (I think) my parents bought a new, huge house on a huge corner lot in Milton for $60000, Milton was basically a field back then.(I feel old as dirt...)

One thing I loved about Hawthorne Village when it first opened up was the sense of community. Everyone sitting on their porches on a warm Saturday night, everyone who walked by would stop and say hi. I seen more than a few folks walking the subdivision with those cooler wagons (or a simple bag o' beer), stopping for drinks with anyone they ran into! Here's hoping we get to enjoy the same kind of neighbourhood! I'll have the bag o' Blue ready just in case...

To be honest, it sounds like several peeps will be doing the commute so there may be more to talk to re: carpooling!!

We have no family/friends out there either -- we're all by ourselves too! Well, my husband does have a cousin in Kitchener, but that's it. This site is a great place to start meeting new neighbours. Look forward to meeting you two, as well as many others. I'm really starting to think that this community will be the best yet.

Yea, I am sure the topic will come up closer to closing time, when we have to start doing the commute lol.

Likewise, hopefully one day we'll be able to meet at the site :) Otherwise we'll just wait to move in and welcome you to the neighbourhood when you come the month after us :)

And the liquor store too :)

I'm pretty happy about that. The one by my current place is always super packed and a mission to get in and out of - without a couple of honks and certain fingers waving in the air! So we always drive out to the further one where it's better and less populated.

Every time we've driven by the Cambridge beer store close to the site, it looks pretty quiet :)

I was looking thru the windows at lot 168 and the security guard openned the door and asked if we wanted to look inside

All the tiles were done, the super shower and bathtub wall tiles as well, colors look really nice

I saw 2 couples down there, didn't have a chance to chat

If the owner of the green Jeep Patriot is on this board sorry I didn't wave back, my limbs were numb from the cold!

The vet in Cambridge seems pretty nice! We bought a puppy in the summer as did our close friends! In fact our puppies were sharing the same cage!:)
We bought him from the #1 pet centre which is located in the Cambridge mall! The vet does all the inspections on the puppies and gives them their first shots etc before you buy them! We saw a vet in brampton near where we live but decided it was best since we are gonna be moving to Cambridge and because we bought him in Cambridge to get a vet close to where we will live!
Our friends who like I mentioned bought our puppies cage buddy have took their dog their regularly since they got him! We went for a initial checkup today as we are getting him fixed in 2 weeks there!
So far so good though its right on Hespeler Road just down from the 401 on the right hand side in the Home Sense and Pet Smart plaza, believe it is called Cambridge Animal hospital!
But like I said the staff and vet seem really friendly and knowledgable so so far so good i guess!:)
Need anymore info just let me know!

Seems like alot of residents are gonna have dogs in the community!

Hey Alex,
The security guard was sitting in his car in the driveway when we went to look at Lot 167 & 168. We said hi to him and walked in :) It's coming along greatly! Kevin and I will also need to find a vet up there for Chance. The vet I have here in Brampton is horrible. He always upsells me a million and one things I don't need for my dog! And then when I am turning him down, he makes me feel like I am a bad pet owner because I don't buy him things I wouldn't have to buy him normally. UGH

They all do that..

We are also going to be looking for a good vet but the question might be.
Is there any good Vets out there, that are not just in it for the money?
Hope we all can find a good one out in cambridge.... Because in mississauga they all suck,

I love my vet and I'm sad to leave them. They've always been very reasonable and often throw in a few 'extras' during visits. If they weren't going to be so far away when we move, I'd consider keeping them. I told them about our move and they said that they'll fax our dog's medical history to whatever vet we choose. I hope I find one as good as I've got now.

See, the lady who used to work at the Vet that I take my dog to was excellent! She never made me feel bad, and didn't try to sell me on every single thing! But then she left.... And then I was stuck with the pushy owner :(

Went to the site yesterday and of course checked out my house's progress. Not too much happened this week with our lot. They put in our permanent stairs (Yay! No more scary stairs!) to the basement and second floor. They put in the central val rough in. Installed our bow window and framed out the corner tub in our master ensuite. But other than that not too much visually. They are supposed to start bricking this week so I'm happy about that. I'm a little worried as I don't know if I am going to like my brick choice after all - HAHA I am super picky and indecisive!!!
Lot 167 was open and it's coming along quickly. Light fixtures are in throughout the house and they've painted the walls and all interior doors and trim. It's looking fantastic! Lot 168 was locked :(
Didn't go into any other homes as we had another couple with us, and after seeing a couple of homes, we didn't want to bore them! We took them to the model homes though and they loved that!

Went today (with kids too). I found two Stonehursts in the later stages, one framed and one bricked and drywalled down Baldwin. Walked through both :D! They were both different elevations from mine and both have some changes to the layout that I did and didn't do. Still it was nice to do a walkthrough since I do not have a model home to look at. There are many more Stonehursts to come but they are either in the same stage as mine or they are just getting started in phase 3.

Though we were there Tuesday, so it's not too bad. I'm going to be going crazy next Friday though...we'll definitely have to make a trip that weekend.

I'm hoping all of our brick work is done this week!!

Rachel, did you point it out to them? They moved our exterior electrical outlet super high and we pointed it out to them and we're still waiting to hear back. Hopefully we'll see it fixed this week.

Who's going up this weekend?? Hopefully the snow holds out for a little bit tomorrow!!! I'm stuck @ work until 5pm :( And the snow keeps piling higher and higher....

Dion We won't be heading up this weekend! if you go be sure to have a look at my place and see if they fixed the ensuite framing issue with the shower! And if there is anymore progress!
Otherwise enjoy the shovelling as it really sucks!:)

Hey Frank,
Kevin and I are going to try our best to make it out there. Hopefully the road in the development isn't that bad, and my car doesn't get stuck lol!!
We'll look @ your place for you and report back with some photos :)

Luckily, I live in an apartment so I don't have to shovel :D Kevin lives in a house with a nice large double car driveway and sidewalk :) Thankfully his 'rents just bought a snow-blower haha

Due to the high winds, there are alot of houses that are missing shingles. The roofers will be busy doing the repairs. Hope the issue of missing shingles is not an ongoing problem during high winds. I could see some shingles flapping in the wind and alot of bare spots.

Do the shingles need heat for the self sealing aspect?

Wow really fletcher?

Do you know if these houses had completely shingled roofs or still in the process? I'm curious if our house has any issues... :(

The strong winds affected houses that were completely shingled and are in the process of being shingled. I saw most of them on Baldwin Drive.

Wow!
Good thing we're going up there tomorrow so we will be able to see if our house has all of our shingles still on the roof LOL.

This could actually have to do with the fact that these roofs aren't completely finished (even though they may looked finished). The roofers sometimes leave certain shingles unfastened, so that the flashings can be added for vents later. If the wind from today caught one of these loose shingles, it could definitely rip them off.

Sucks for Mattamy though.

When we first pulled into the community, I saw you getting into your car and I thought you guys were leaving. I didn't stop as I didn't want to seem like some crazy person who pulls out in front of you and blocks you in just so we can talk LOL
But Kevin and I were happy to welcome you into our house when you came to visit :D You are our 1st Mill Pond Community visitors to tour our house with us :)
It was great to meet you two and put faces to "user names" (And your FB picture lol)

Haha I've never seen your green prelude around Rachel. Do you only stay within the townhouse area? We rarely venture in there anymore, especially since it's freezing lol

Did you make it up there? Have they done any work recently to the homes on Lands court (lot 10 ;))? Last time I went there was just before Christmas and they had the wood there ready to start framing. I want to visit again soon but it is disappointing when they have not progressed.

They have started with the framing of several houses... I think yours is one of them, but I'm not 100% sure. Ours is still just a foundation but that's to be expected since we're the last to close on the street.

LOL Sorry, I'm new at the whole having people over thing. You're lucky I remembered to invite you in and didn't keep you two on the porch =)
Next time, beer and snacks will be available.

Just think in a month from now, we'll be able to walk over to your house to check it out fully framed and whatnot and then you'll be able to come over and see our completed place (You're taking off your shoes this time :p ) and warm up!
