Is there anyone who did not get a security system? Did you have to pay ~$400 for just the rough in? or could you choose to get nothing at zero cost?

Kapps, I will try to make sense of what you mean. A security system is optional on all models. I got one installed in my house however for the 5 dollars less per month it isnt much of savings on your house insurance as opposed to one without it.

It was zero dollars through the builder for them to install a home security system if you signed up for a 3 year term through the security company at a cost of around 25 per month.
You could get the system roughed in for a cost of like $480 and the ends of the wires will be left rough and any contacts, motion sensors etc are purchased afterwards.
The last option is to get the security system roughed in complete with contacts of all doors,a keypad,2 motion sensors and a siren but without monitoring for like $1445 as it is for a model such as mine.
This is a option that is good as if the system goes off chances are anyone entering will flee, but I still think its better to go with the monitored system anyway!
Although Im from Brampton anyway where Security systems are the norm! :) I just feel safer having one! Personal preference I feel although I would wager most people didnt get one at all and spend their money elsewhere although if you sign up for the 3 years it doesnt cost you nothing but monitoring costs anyway and after that you own the system outright!

Ha ha, I think I found a loop hole in the security system price if im not mistaken. Frank correct me if Im wrong if you sign a 3 year contract with reliance home security you get the same system installed that you would for 1450 without the monitoring???
If thats true then at 30 bucks a month time 1 year times 3 is only 1080 and your system is monitored. Great deal if you aske me.

Shaunn! You are indeed correct but i think its closer to 25-27 a month for 3 years, after which you own the system outright! And by doing the whole system install without monitoring isnt worth it because no House insurance company is gonna honor your claim when you tell them you have a alarm that isnt connected to the proper authoritys plus you wont get the House Insurance discount either. But if you want a system without monitoring that will make some noise I guess its good.

I personally think Shaunn you are more then smart to get the 3 year monitoring plan like I did! Macel is the installer for Mattamy and your system will be all put in before you close except for the part that they need to connect to the phone! Other than that buddy your good to go and your door will chime from Day 1! :D As long as you dont turn it off at the panel!

I felt that a FREE Install with a low monthly payment that also lowers my HI is a WIN WIN deal!

And Kapps You Are In NO WAY Obligated to buy a Security system if you dont want one at all! Its a Choice!

We signed up with Reliance at $29.95/month monitoring. We did not have to pay for the installation or equipment at all. Just had to commit to a 3yr agreement, in which the first 4 months are free.

Some places will charge for installation and equipment. I was surprised at Reliance and feel safe'n'sound with the monitoring.
