I posted this on facebook as well. I spoke to the DC and they said that anyone who picked out Canac will be asked back to pick out from AYA selections. I hope that there is something similar to the Maple Mission style as that's what we picked out!

Your thoughts?

OMG!!!
I'm still in shock since reading your post on FB!!!
All of our cabinets were from Canac :s

And the worse thing is - I took a couple months and MANY changes to become happy with the selection we had! I change my mind way too much and so this really makes me upset!!!

Which cabinets did you choose?

We chose Mission Maple Kafe in the kitchen and Mission Maple Natural in the bathroom (can you tell I didn't really like any of the other choices.)

I spoke briefly today with someone at the DC (didn't get her name) and she said they are trying to get samples of the AYA in Cocoa finish. I think it's VERY close to what we picked for the kitchen - at least from the picture.

Have a look at this website and see if there are any close to what you chose. I hope they will let us re-choose our other options like countertop and tile - in case they don't match our new cabinests.

Everything I've read says that AYA have better quality - and we wouldn't want to get them from a company that won't be around to warranty them - right? So maybe this is a good thing.

We chose:

Thermofoil Freeport Chocolate Pear - And I honestly want to cry as these were our gorgeous kitchen cabinets.

Thermofoil Concord Hill Square White LG - For our Ensuite

Mission Maple Ginger - For our Main/Guest bath

I'm going to look at the website now and hopefully see things that I like!

I'm also going to try and call our DC person and see if they will allow the change of other things if need be.

Just got off the phone with the DC.

She says even they are in shock that Canac went out of business. They are hoping to have some new samples at the DC for Monday. Once they are all in, they will start communicating with home-owners regarding change of selections. They will show you what is suggested from the AYA line that would match your original selection but you may choose something else.
Priority will be given to the earliest closings (obviously)
I also asked that even though it is early, do they think we will be delayed? And she said they are hoping this doesn't set them back, but as it right now they don't think so.
The 43'-50' only used AYA Cabinets so they are safe from this.

definitely good and bad to the announcement... we loved the cabinets we chose, but it was more the colour and not the style so hopefully we can find a match to our tiles / hardwood etc...

Hopefully we'll know more by the time I go to Mattamy U... if not, thats the first question I'll be asking.

I should have taken pictures of our first picked cabinets:eek:

We stopped in at the design centre on Sunday to check out the AYA cabinets. There was nothing even close to what we picked out from Canac - and I don't like ANY of the standard samples from AYA. Not even a little bit.

I spoke to one of the weekend consultants and she said they are still trying to get samples of AYA doors similar to the Canac ones....but wouldn't say for sure that they'd still be standard. Sigh...I don't want to pay for an upgrade if I was perfectly happy with the standard Canac doors. This is bringing me down....

that would suck if we had to ammend our door choices to an upgrade after being really happy with our choice...

I know its not Mattamy's fault that Canac closed their doors but its not ours either:mad:

We had our appointment today and Mattamy did receive some cabinets from Aya that are quite good to replace some of the standard ones from canac! We had no problem finding a replacement and were quite pleased with it! Good luck everyone!

I wonder if they have the Canac selections still at the centre so you can compare them

Babymaeby, We went on Monday for our design appointment and we got to see first hand the Aya Cocoa Maple cabinet which is standard! We liked it so much with it being wood an da nice colour that we went with it! It in my honest opinion is better then the Thermofoil cabinets for the kitchen as it is real wood unlike the plastic in which the thermofoil is made from! We chose thermofoil for our bathrooms though as they were nice! All things being equal I think you will like the Cocoa one in Aya! It was originally a upgrade but they are providing it as standard! Who is or was your design coordinator! We had Coretta and she is super!
Good luck on your reselection and all the best! Let me know if you like the Cocoa one!

Yes! Our DC is Jen and she showed it to us last night at MU. We loved it too - we are getting Cocoa Maple in Monterrey style for our kitchen. And the same but Natural colour in our bathroom. I'm very happy with it.

our choices in the kitchen were a little lighter (espresso) but we still liked it, the washrooms were almost exact replicas so that was good.

but like mentioned before we were happy to no longer have the thermofoil since it was originally the colour that we loved with our granite and tiles

Hey Style,

A few weeks ago I was checking out the AYA web site and I also like the look of the Mission Cabinet Maple Cocoa. But, I am working out of town and have not had the chance to see them for myself. I will do that the first week in November when I am abck.

I am just curious what countertop people are choosing to go with the Cocoa Maple Mission Cabinet.

Originally i was thinking of the buttercream laminate [ i think that was it...lol] with the tumbled marble backsplash. But not sure now.

I am not sure if it is a good idea to pick a counter top that tries to mimic granite...lol

Initially the girls in the design centre steered me towards the buttercream because it was the only included counter that went with the darkest included cabinet at the time. I really didn't like the fake granite thing, I thought it might look icky especially considering the large counter space in our model kitchen.

When the Cocoa Maple became available as included I was able to change to Kalahari Topaz which mimics Zodiac. I accidently descovered what a great fake it was when I placed it on the island in the design centre which is made of Zodiac and the laminate counter looked almost as good. Kalahari Topaz is the only included counter I liked so I worked the tiles around that.

We went with concrete stone which is a very light beige-y laminate. Our tiles are anatolia slate green - so we wanted something light and not too busy for the countertop - you can see what it looks like here:

I'm sure you can't go wrong with Mission Cocoa Maple - it's a beautiful colour. Let us know what you decide.
