Just wondering if anyone has any local recommendations for house insurance. We are currently with State Farm in Milton and they've been great but I like to do business with locals if possible. So are there any Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo deals out there?

We got a great rate from All-State (but in Brampton) I don't know where a local office in Cambridge ( I haven't checked yet) but the service and rate was the best compared to many others!
They also have some additional perks with their insurance.

Here are some of the features:

Preferred contractors, which guarantee their repairs for as long as you own your home

Identity Theft and Legal Expense coverage - we'll help your through identity theft issues and provide legal assistance

Claim Forgiveness - your first claim will not affect your rates

Claim Free Discount - each year you go without a claim you will get a 5% discount on your renewal

Disappearing Deductible - each year you go without a claim your deductible will be reduced by $100 until it reaches $0.

The quote I gave you is a comprehensive "all-risk" policy on both the home and the contents. (eg. if you spilled a bucket of paint on the floor and your sofa, we would repair/replace your floor and sofa if you wanted)

They also offer personalized options packages that offer additional coverage if you have certain hobbies ($35/yr each):
Golf package
Ski & snowboard package
Game & fishing package
Yard & garden package

I did alot of shopping around and I found their rate to be great and our agent is awesome! Hope this helps

i'll put this ? in here...

our insurance company is trying to add onto us saying we need to insure the common elements of the townhouse area, like parking etc.

I told them to shove it, but has anybody else in townhomes heard this?

I would understand this if you weren't a freehold townhome. Where the parking arera is not your property etc. but I think you are right in telling them to shove it! D

You normally get discounts when you bundle your home with your auto insurance.

I'm all for dealing locally. You can walk into their office and talk to a decision maker.
