I have a question about an Energy Star option.
I know that Mattamy homes come standard with upgraded insulation and an HRV along with numerous other ener guide goodies in their Milton project at Hawthorne village , but does Mattamy in Cambridge even offer this an an option ?
Please someone help me out??
Thanks

I believe its an upgrade, but not a standard, I think each development / phase might be different with 'standard' or goodies...
for ex. our came with 2000 in upgrades and some HVAC ducting stuff.

We had this option also and we took it. For us it was $3500 but I heard the 50' homes had to pay $5000 for this upgrade.
I did a whole bunch or research and not only is it great for resale value (everyone wants energy savings!) it also is getting us a whole bunch of rebates (Even with our mortgage!) so it's practically paid for itself already!
We were on the fence about it but decided to get it at the last moment.
We get almost $2700 back from Mortgage Insurance Premiums and other things so we saw it as a smart investment. I wish it would provide working windows but Mattamy has to make their money somewhere.
Apparently we are supposed to save 30-40% on our energy bills. You wouldn't see these savings upfront as you wouldn't have anything to compare the bill to.
I am not too fond of paying the $12 a month though. That is the only downside I see to it.

Exactly! How can they tell you how much you will save?
What is this about not being able to open windows? Does that apply to every window in the home? I have to have my fresh air!
What is included with the Energy Star option? I am particularly interested in the insulation above my garage, as well as the wall between my neighbor and I. Are an HRV and an upgraded furnace included as well??

What I am referring to about "opening windows" is operating windows.
If you have a section of windows that contain 2-3 windows in one room, only one will open/operate.
It is $177 each window to have it operate/open.
Ours came with the HRV with a monthly fee of $15 I think..
I don't recall if it had an upgraded furnace or not as I don't have the upgrade book on me and I kind-of misplaced it.
I believe the whole house is insulated better including the basement and they conduct a blow test to see how much air comes in and escapes. They have really high stanards for energy star homes.
Improved sealing around the house and improved ductwork.
Does anyone else have any of the info handy?

If you guys did this package, great, but watch out.
The builder is supposed to seal your ductwork, but NOT with duct tape. We noticed on one of the homes being built right now, they sealed up the ductwork with duct tape - this will not last. There's another type of tape they're supposed to be using (my husband knows the name). Just watch they don't cheap out.
