yeah I've been using that site but when I call I get the "we will take your name and call you in 6 months or so"
or please fill out an application and the doctor will review it and give you a decision in 6 to 8 weeks
what is this??? a job application????? what could they screen you for???
it's disgusting if you ask me
When I was looking for a new doctor in Mississauga I found a page on the Credit Valley Hospital website that listed the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the doctors accepting new patients. Try finding the closest hospital in the Cambridge area and see if they have a page like that. That way you can call the doctors' offices directly.
It may be difficult to find a good doctor in the Cambridge area that is still accepting patients. That's why I plan to keep the same doctor I have in Meadowvale. It's only a 35 minute drive and I plan to come to Mississauga at least once a month anyway. You just have to plan ahead.

There are almost no doctors in Waterloo Region accepting new patients right now, but the Region of Waterloo has a program and committee in place to try and attract new doctors to the area. There are an estimated 30,000 people in the Region right now, without family doctors. If you visit this website http://www.greaterkwchamber.com/findaphysician.aspx from the KW Chamber of Commerce, you can find some more information.
If you have children it will be much easier to get a doctor in this area than if you do not. Unfortunately, for people with small kids, there isn't really the luxury of having a doctor in Mississauga and trying to arrange to drive them back and forth when they get sick, so these people will always get priority.
There is actually a doctor's office in Hespeler that is accepting patients right now at the Forbes Park Clinic, 26 Forbes Street, 519 658-4615.
Our doctor is at the Grandview Medical Centre http://www.gmcfht.ca/ and he's terrible, but we stay because there isn't much of an option. Our kids see a Pediatrician that is fantastic so we can tolerate our GP for ourselves. Grandview is a different kind of office and is set up more like a clinic, so it might be another good place to get in somewhere for now.

I hope this helps...good luck!
It's really hard to find a good doctor. I used to have one that almost killed me so I switched! The doctor I have now is really good and I'm not taking an chance with a new one.

I completely agree. If you find a good doctor that you trust, it's well worth holding on to them. As a parent, I think that you can agree that it would be hard to have an out of area doctor, while you have small children.
I've had three different doctors since moving to Cambridge and they've all been terrible. My sister has a GP in Hespeler from when she lived in that area and has continued to go to him, despite moving out of town.
I've found that RateMDs.com (http://www.ratemds.com/social/?q=node/28883&country=1&dlname=&dcity=Cambridge&sid=58&dgender=&zip=&radius=10) is a great resource as well and usually fairly accurate. Another option is to go through this list and start calling doctors and pleading your case. If you have a good relationship with your existing doctor, you could always ask him/her to call one of the doctors from Cambridge and ask that they take you on.
Yes everything is so much harder when you have small children. My husband's cousin moved to Cambridge about 5 years ago and she just moved back to Mississauga because of job issues and time spent traveling and never seeing the baby. They both commuted to work. She just had a second baby and the traveling wore her down.

The Forbes clinic is accepting new patients as of this October. Just an FYI if anyone is looking to get a GP in the area (It's 5 mins away from us)

Does that mean that you call now for appointments in October or do you have to wait until October to call in?

We have our consultation with the GP mid-October. They said they are accepting new patients but won't be available to see them for the initial consultation until October (Then I'm assuming we can schedule doctors appointments after that?) I've never had to find a doctor before so that was something new for me - I thought we would be able to see them the following month so to schedule an appointment for October kinda shocked me a little lol.
I also called Cambridge Health Link (The other office currently accepting patients) and they would take down your phone number and call you in 4 - 6 months also for an initial appointment. She mentioned not being able to make an actual appointment until next Feb.... Don't know if she made a mistake or if that was correct (she said a couple months before sticking with Feb)
Hope this helps?

I called back in April and our "first appointment" is in July. They only book a few of these meetings at a time since they still need to see regular patients.
I would call sooner than later to get in there, before they fill up.

Yes, it's pretty pathetic but many doctors are now prescreening potential patients and if you seem high maintenance you'll be declined.
