the drive was hell. I got onto the 401 at 8 am and arrived at work just now at 9:30....I start at 9. some days the traffic is okay, but others, are brutal. I've tried every alternate route I can, but the days I stay in cambridge I am always late for work.....just an FYI for those who commute to mississauga or further...you may want to leave your house extra early for work when you first move in, until you can figure out when the best time to leave is!! if you work at 8 or 9 am, be prepared for mad traffic! if anyone knows of any alternate routes, please let me know!

Ya the 401 is hell!!!!!! The only thing you can do is leave early
even if you found a back road way it probably wouldn't be any quicker.
(my dad used to take the craziest ways to T.O. and it took like 3 hours or so....he called it the scenic route. lol)

I did that commute for about two years from Kitchener to North York. It is always madness. It's as much a mental thing as anything else. You need to be prepared for stupidity on the roads and lots of waiting. Bring your favourite CD... Or your favourite 10 CD's. Good luck to all you commuters from Mill Pond.

Thank goodness my office is in MIss but down off the lake so I wont be taking the 401 for too long when I do go into the office.
I havent timed it but have been told its bad but doable.

I was told to leave at 7am no later. Even at 7am you still hit mad traffic, but the earlier you can leave the better. Maybe considering changing your hours at work to start earlier? Do you have flex hours?

Ive driven the other way at that time a bunch and going East there isnt a whole lot of traffic. You should be fine to get in with what it would take you on a weekend

Lovely!!!
I start work in Mississauga (Borderline Brampton) for 8:30am and I was thinking I would leave for 7am
Edit: Google maps is saying my drive is 74.6 kms and it will be 55 mins so an hour and a half should be good enough I am hoping!!!

You mean doesn't right?? Otherwise, I've been driving in the wrong lane sometimes :P
It's the 403 that has the HOV lanes

dion, you are right, its the 403. my boyfriend works at 6am and he says its a breeze getting into work. he also said its okay on the way home if you leave at 4pm. I've had better days driving in and out of mississauga, but mostly bad days.....sometimes traffic doesn't even start until mississauga rd, but on some days, its starts before the milton water tower....its always different. I've tried alternate routes, but they are even longer because of lights.....the drive REALLY sucks.....honestly, thats the only crappy thing about cambridge.....and it will only get worse over the years because everyone is moving up that way.... I can't change my work hours.

My fiance lives and works in Mississauga. When he stays over at my place in Kitchener and goes to work from here he always leaves 1.5 hours before he starts (he gets off at Hurontario). From Cambridge to Erin Mills Pkwy I'd say if you left at 6am you would almost always get to work on time :)

My friend who i work with lives in guelph and he says as long as you leave by at the latest 6:45 you should be good to be at Airport and Steeles in brampton by close to a hour! He usually leaves at 6:30 and hes there long before I show up for work!:)
Going home isnt bad either after you get by Milton! Ive done the drive at that time as well to test it out which is leave at 5pm from same area then take 407 to 401 and he is always home in his place by 6pm! So 1 hour isnt bad when you leave to go home at 5 pm!

Well I start work at 6 am at the airport and leave around 2pm so hopefully I'll be ok!
I shower and shave and have breakfast at work, so I go from the bed to the car in 5 minutes

So leave early, and either start work early, or get a gym membership, or a Tim Horton's nearby

I'm working at Steeles and Airport rd in brampton. I havn't done the drive to work yet (as I don't close until December) but I tested the drive from work to mill pond. I left at 4:00pm on the dot and arrived in our area at exactly 5:00pm (I took steeles to winston churchill and then took the 401 from there) ...not sure if it was a lucky day but if that is the norm I would be fine with that. Also I have considered using the 407 to get from airport rd to the 401 @ winston churchill if I am in a rush to get home.

Chelio, I work in the same area and in the morning I leave at 7 the latest and im there in like 45 minutes with the 407. once you get by James Snow it isnt that bad if you take the 407. I used to exit at Mississauga Road and zigzag but I figured why idle in Brampton for like 30 more minutes. I leave work at 5 pm from Airport and Steeles behind the Shell station and when I jump on the ramp to the 407 its wide open till you merge with the 401. Within 10 minutes tops your past James Snow and Highway 25 and its wide open again! At the most it takes me a hour but usually like 50 minutes. Although when we had some snow its took me as long as 2 and a half hours to get to work in the morning!
The drive isnt all that bad mentally, but I would recommend a reliable car thats good on gas! It's well worth it for the beautiful community and great neighbours we have here down by the Pond!

Style, thanks for the info! the 407 is definitely sounding more and more appealing. I figured it was gonna b a rough ride during the winters but as you said it is well worth it for the community.
I work in the offices at the Canadian Tire DC on goreway between steeles and queen...hmm possible carpool options in the future...

I work 830 till 5 Monday to Friday! The 407 for the month round trip is around 160 bucks when you exit at Airport but well worth it to bypass the mess in Brampton with traffic! At first I used to take it just one way coming home but I love getting to work fast and having time for my Tim Hortons and to relax in my car if I want! Many MANY people commute to the GTA daily from our community!
