Marketplace on CBC will be airing an episode on Friday at 8:30pm regarding new homes warranty and how it lacks protection for the consumer. Mike Holmes will be in the episode. Should be interesting.

Did anyone else watch this? Pretty interesting show, but kinda scary as well.
I'm sure that when you're dealing with a builder the size of Mattamy, things are completely different and they don't try to get away with as much shifty stuff as a small-time builder. I doubt that they would still be in business after all of this time if they were intentionally screwing people.
That being said, I am going to be extremely picky about what Mattamy does. If I find them doing any that isn't above board I will be on them about it.
I checked out the video online, it was quite informative. My main concern with Mattamy wouldn't be about them screwing people over on purpose, but being so big and having so many sub-contractors that things fall through the cracks. I know for example that my house was framed by monkeys, the Mattamy guys caught most of the big stuff and had it fixed, but there are little things that they wouldn't bother getting fixed which may be an annoyance later on.

Very interesting episode!!
So since I was bored, I decided to google him and the below is what I've found!
His company is/was called LondonDerry Residential Group. As Found from here #12 (http://www.myhamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/03E9EA38-8E65-4892-97F9-22875B070457/0/Feb05StatsCanRevised.pdf)
1 Terrible Review (http://www.homestars.com/companies/214485-londonderry-residential-group) from an unimpressed homeowner on homestars.com
The article of the lawsuit (http://www.thespec.com/article/200129) for Hamilton
Also, like Danny asked, how do we go about getting the inspection reports?

Exactly the problem with most home builders is that almost everything is subcontracted out and the quality control seems to be lacking. I read the Milton Hawthorne Village messageboard and when I see the issues new owners are posting about it's not reassuring.
