Hi Everyone,

We're trying to see online how much the home phone, Internet and personal TV would cost us but it's saying that it isn't available in our area (N3C 0A7)

For those who are in Cambridge currently do you have Rogers services? I can't see them not having services in Cambridge.

I plan on calling them up on Monday to verify but I thought I would post here first to see what others have to say.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Dion,

Rogers does provide services in Cambridge.

Give them a call since the new postal codes may not be on their website registration.

Hey Smartsexystylish!

First your house looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys must be beside yourselves at this point I know I would be!

As for Rogers they definitely do provide in Cambridge! Do try to talk them down with the pricing as well. Don't give into the first quote and let them know that you are going to shop around Bell etc!!! It just might get you a little something added.

Hope all is well with you guys. Have a Happy New Year!

Hey Danielle,
Thanks! Kevin and I are super excited! We have a meeting with the builder tomorrow to get an update on what to expect to see happy within our final month!

I thought it would be crazy that Rogers didn't offer service in Cambridge! I already have it planned to pin Rogers against Bell and Bell against Rogers to see who offers the best deal.

Pricing it out online, Rogers offer the best deal for Internet and TV and bell has the best home phone (with long distance) for cheaper (and we have cell phones with bell so we may be able to get a better price bundle because of that) I would like to go with one provider for all 3 services (not including wireless) but I would break up my business between the 2 if I can't get it overall cheaper.

I'll post on here what I got and for how much so people would know if they are getting a good deal or not (Compared to what I got)

Thanks for letting me know though! Happy New Year to you two also :)

Dion

did you get that piece of mail from Rogers... ?

think its like that Bell welcome you got, but it was basically free installation and 3 months with bundle incentives.

I didn't get any mail from Rogers, did you?

I got a reminder letter from Bell though... Yea you're right about the details.. Now I am going to see what Rogers will do to match/beat that lol

Yeah it was a hand written envelope to my wife and I, then inside was a Rogers flyer to get us to use them in Cambridge.

We'll play them against each other, but I personally like the stuff Rogers provides and we both have cell phone plans there which should help.

Free installation is pretty key

What??!! We never got nothing in the mail from them. Weird that it was a handwritten though.
We have a Rogers contact that we got at the Home Show in September. I'm going to call Bell and see what's the best they can offer me. Then I will call Rogers and show them what Bell is offering me and get them to beat it. I will also mention free installation in the Bell letter. Then I will call my contact and tell him that this is what customer service is offering me so what can you offer lol.

Again, Free istallation is key here!
We like the Rogers Internet and Cable (We already have 1 regular one paid in full and we'll be getting a HD PVR with our TV purchase) But their home phone is more expensive compared to Bell (with Long Distance) so if they don't come down significantly with that then we'll just go with Bell for phone (and we have our cells with Bell)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but....

It's not looking like Rogers is offering any services (With the exception of Long Distance) within the Mill Pond Community until a couple months from now....

I'm on the phone with my 2nd representative (on hold for a while..) and they are looking into this. :(

Just thought I would point this out for those who may be thinking of going with Rogers - Like us!

Edit: They are calling me back within 24 - 28 hours to let us know if we can get services or not.... Ugh! (The best part is, after I got off the phone with the rep, Rogers called back asking if I can complete a survey regarding the call!)

Justmed, have you called them to find out whats the deal yet? I mentioned you received a letter to the rep and he said that he didn't know why you would be offered service in the same development if others can't get it. So you may want to inquire about that?

So Rogers isnt even offering digital cable? HD?

thats weird... i have the sheet at home. It was a local rep who had a 519 area code, and it said to call him.

I'll give him a shout and see whats up.

Nope, I was calling to get a quote on Home Phone, Cable and Internet and they said all that was offered in the area at the moment was Long Distance. And I asked well how soon do you think they would offer service to the area and they said a couple months minimum. I told them that's absurd especially since I already have a HD Cable box paid off and a HD PVR Rogers box too!
I don't want to sign up with Bell and make the switch a couple months later :s

And I pointed that out to them... And the 1st sales person didn't seem to care too much!

The second guy at least was a little more helpful and I'm hoping his call back is positive. I really don't want to go with bell for Sat and Internet. I want Rogers to provide that :(

Probably a case of gotta talk to the right person.

I can maybe see certain internets not being available for now since its still not available everywhere as is.

But HD cable or anything is pretty much a given, hell digital cable is mandatory in like 6 weeks

That really sucks I hate bell satellite, Rogers digital cable is a million times better . If it's still not offered by the time I move in I will just wait for it and use my cell phone as my home phone for a bit and watch a lot of DVDs lol.
My B/F may not be able to survive without the internet tho...but he already has bell internet so maybe he is sticking with that...sorry for babbling on lol

Haha I don't know if we can go without internet and cable for "a couple months". Home phone we were already leaning towards going with Bell for.
I'd miss my tv shows and my bf would miss his hockey

We were thinking of trying to stick it out until football season starts to get cable (nothing is on during the summer anyway)

Looks like they just made our decision for us. That stinks!

I can't bear to put an ugly satellite on the outside of our brand new house, so I was convinced we'd go with Rogers for TV.

We like Bell for phone and internet (I don't want to lose my sympatico email address) so looks like we're ok there.

Keep us posted on what else you find out. I'm going to call Rogers to inquire/complain. Maybe if they hear from many of us they'll speed it up.

ya I know I don't think that I could live without my T.V. shows ... I watch so many lol
so maybe I would be forced into temporaily going to bell for satilite...but it would still suck
and yes the ugly satilite dish...what an eyesore

Just a heads up!

Bell Satellite has a contract for 2 years attached with it (Phone and Internet does not) I called and asked the rep this morning if Bell offers service to us (Just to make sure) and what the installation/cancellation policy/fees were.
Edit: And you will get dinged with cancellation fees if you were to cancel this service before the 2 years!

I REALLY REALLY don't want to go with a Bell dish!! It's ugly putting it on our brand new houses. I don't like them at all... and I'll have 2 useless paid off Rogers cable boxes collecting dust :( I'm hoping if enough of us call into Rogers, maybe they will get on this faster.

I can live with TV for a couple weeks but a couple months is just not do-able for me... I need to watch my TV shows (I'll catch my missed shows on the net, but there is only sooo long I can sit in my comp chair before I get tired)

Alright,
So after spending after an hour on the phone and 2 reps and 1 supervisor later here is what I've learned:

Rogers WILL be offering Cable and Internet starting Jan. 16th in our area. I have no idea about home phone as she only saw those 2 in her system.

They aren't offering much in the terms of "deals" IMO... And if you mention what bell is offering they talk bad about bell like no tomorrow... Just shut up and give me a deal if you want my business... geez!

Ugh!

I got a call today from a Rogers representative in Cambridge. She left me a message. Said they were offering 3 months free internet/home phone/vip cable to everyone in Mill Pond. (and free installation.)

I didn't get to talk to her - my first question when I do is 'how long of a contract do I have to sign up for?!' It sounds too good to be true.

I still like Bell for home phone -they've got a $10 monthly unlimited ontario long distance plan that would be perfect for us that Rogers doesn't seem to offer - and I kind of want to keep my sympatico email address. I wonder if they'll split up the offer and only give us free cable?

Will post when I find out more. PM me if you want her phone number.

We went to the home show last Sept and got a card from a guy who said he'd give us free installation and 3 months free, but the prices were a little expensive compared to what Rogers (the call centre) offered me. I asked him this and he told me that these were the regular prices after the 3 months free and the call centre's promotion is a year long one. FYI installation for all services @ rogers is $59 I believe. And that's per visit, not service installed.
He was very rude, so I don't think I will go with him.
Do you mind PM'ing me her phone number?

We plan on going with Rogers for cable and Internet and Bell for home phone with 2 services. We're also going with the long distance plan, but it's $15 for Ontario - $10 for that option and then $5.00 in service fees associated with just that. It's still cheaper than Rogers $30 for all of Ontario (Which we don't need at all!)

I think they will still give you 3 months of free cable only. Ask! The worst is they say no, and you say you're going to go with bell than since they are offering it (Bluffing of course!) They wouldn't want to lose business right?

In case anyone was interested, I spoke with Rogers. You are allowed to pick and choose which services you want and you still get 3 months free. In our case we only got cable...VIP package + HD PVR free for 3 months - after that you can keep it or downgrade, but you have to maintain some type of cable for 1 year. The PVR rental is 50% off for the rest of the year. I thought that was pretty good so we took it.

Still haven't negotiated home phone or internet yet.

I talked with Rogers before, they are not ready to have homephone in our area yet. I even have to switch my existing Rogers home phone to Bell by moving in next week.
Not sure whether Rogers home phone is ready now, anyway switch to Bell may not be a bad thing....

Hey Leon,

They say that Rogers isn't in the area but really they are! I've spoken to a manager regarding it. They just haven't updated it in their systems yet.

You have a Rogers box on the side of your home connected to your hydro meter and Rogers & Bell have both dug the necessary lines before construction (Mattamy told me this when I went to them and asked)
Ask to speak to a manager, they should be able to help you out. I have my installation scheduled for Feb 5th and I know a couple other homeowners who have moved in already and received Rogers & Bell services.

FYI - Bell has their systems updated and won't give you the run around.

We went with Rogers for Cable & Internet and Bell for Home Phone.

Hope this helps!

I've had the same as you, Rogers for Cable & Internet and Bell for Home Phone.
I used to have 3 Rogers service, when I contacted Rogers before Christmas, they told me home phone is not ready in Millpond. then I called in jan, still not ready. So I switched to Bell, Bell's home phone is even cheaper than Roger's, so I have no complaint, the only dissopointing thing is the phone No. has to change.
My installing schedule is Feb.3rd, what do you mean Bell won't give run around?

What I meant is when you call Bell to set up your services is they won't tell you there is no service in the area like Rogers says.

Bell's home phone is cheaper than rogers.

We never had any services with either company as this is our first home.

I have my set up with Rogers booked for the day after closing. We are going with all three. There was no issue with setting up my home phone and I already got my new number. Our previous home was also in Hespeler and we had rogers home phone as well so not really sure why some of you are getting that they are not offering home phone in our area. I would call and ask to speak to a superviser.

I just talked to Rogers... the guy who mailed us name is George

He set us up with everything real quick and simple... we went with phone / interenet / cable to bundle with both our cell phones...

free installation, first 3 months free etc etc...

The installation guy we had was EXCELLENT! Very thorough and friendly. Apparently he also did another installation in the community prior to ours. His name is Mike. If you get him for an installation guy, you have no worries! He even gave us his cell phone number as he guarantees his work and told us to call him directly if we had any problems whatsoever. We haven't had any but that was just an added bit of reassurance.
The bell guy on the other hand..... ugh!

I had Rogers before, and I have no contracts on phone or internet... So I had them match the Bell deal. I have homephone with them. You don't need a long distance package if the other person has rogers too because it's free between rogers home phone customers. They will get rid of the SAF off the phone as well. You have to ask, and go to customer relations because they can give you better deals. They gave me a PVR free for a year. 3 months free. Free TMN for 1 month.

we went with Rogers too

not sure if I like it or not.....be had Bell Satalite at the other house

the guy hooked up our cable and then said we had to call rogers to activate the PVR .....after he left....he said make sure you call when I leave.......told us it would only take minutes.......we were on the phone for an hour and a half

I don't move in until May 2010, but i'm seriously considering going with Vonage.

Rogers is a broadband phone provider too, Vonage is just a lot cheaper. Plans start at 19.99/month, just run wireless with a 5 cordless system.

And I can keep my Mississauga phone # (you get three).

We have cells too as backup.

Problem with Rogers or Vonage is you have no phone if there's a power outage, and their 911 service is a little different (they don't know where to send the help, but you can set up a profile online with them to fix that). Bell always works with a corded phone, even with no power.

Dave Croal
08-23-2009, 11:04 AM
Rogers Home Phone and Vonage are not really the same technology. I have both.

Vonage depends on a working broadband Internet connection - typically cable or DSL - to work. If you Internet or your power goes down so does your Vonage. Because is it just plugs into your Internet you could theoretically move across the country and Vonage would not know you have moved. You are supposed to update your 911 address on the Vonage web site when you move but people sometimes forget.

Rogers Home Phone is a phone service that connects you to the telephone network through Rogers Cable. It does not depend on your Internet or Cable connection being up in order to work. The equipment Rogers installs in your basement for Home Phone includes a battery backup for power interruptions.

That does not mean Rogers Home Phone is 100% bulletproof but it is a separate service from Internet and Cable. Theoretically it could go down, but then again so could Bell.

Rogers does support proper 911 service, see
http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&Ntt=911&_pageLabel=search&N=14

While you technically do have phone service with Rogers even during a power outage you can still have problems.

I have Rogers Home Phone for my business line at home and there was a transformer down today and we were without electricity for about an hour.

I have one of those wireless/intercom phone systems and I was not able to use the phone during the power outage. My neighbor has Rogers Home Phone too and she had the same problem. Apparently we need to get one of those low technology wired phones as a backup for when the electricity goes down for a prolonged period. The fancier phones are a problem during a power outage. I assume this would be a problem if you had Bell too.

I'm home 24/7 and I've noticed the power goes out several times a month around here. It normally only lasts about 30 seconds but today it was down for a long time. I think in the winter time we may experience longer and more frequent power outages.
