Hi,

I want a fireplace in my Southgate End townhouse..................

I would like it on the corner in order to safe space. I am not sure Mattamy will do this.

I may look into doing when I close in order to get the fireplace where I want it. In addition Mattamy would want about 4600.00 for the fireplace and a fan.

Does anyone know of a good fireplace shop in the KW or Cambridge area. In addition what the cost would be.

Thank you,

Jason

For those of you that are putting a fireplace in your townhouse. We had our framewalk last week and just an FYI, the ventilation for the fireplace goes through the second floor and through one of the bedrooms (not master) closets. For ours, our closets are not very big to begin with and it takes up half of the closet space in the spare bedroom. I have a call into Mattamy to see what they can do to rectify this, however, have not heard back. We were not informed of this when we purchased the fireplace, so are not pleased. If anyone has purchased a townhouse and put the fireplace in, if the ventilation is different in yours, please let me know!

That stinks. I would complain.

Ours is on an exterior wall so we don't have that problem - it gets vented directly to the outside. But I'm sorry you have that problem - hopefully they can redirect the vent somewhere else.

I'm hoping so as well... I wouldn't have minded if we were warned about it, then it was our decision, but it was quite a surprise. I'm sure I'll hear back from them in the New Year.

Hi,

fireplaces in townhouse,

I see from the pic of the hespler end by Gillian, that they put the firplace along the main wall.

I purchased a Southgate end and would have a similar fireplace to the Hespler End.

I now have the option to put it on the corner. In the Hespler end and southgate end to put the fireplace on the main wall, it would stick out 2 feet into the room. [these models dont have the extended foundation]

Is the corner fireplace a better option?

In addiiton if the fireplace is on the main wall can people see the tv from all angles in the room. The advantage of the fireplace on the corner is that you could see the fireplace and the TV from all angles. It would just mean furniture placement would be more difficult. The cost is the same from all angles. On the Southgate corner, the fireplace is automatically placed into the corner.

Seems to be trade offs each way.....

Does anyone have any thoughts

The fireplace actually doesn't take up too much room when it is not in the corner, it also gives an opportunity to have build ins beside it to hide your DVD players etc. I think you should be able to see the TV from all directions, I have some more pics now that they have drywalled to show you, I'll try to post them soon.

I haven't heard back from Mattamy on the closet issue, but will let you know what they say.

I didnt add a fireplace when I purchased back in may. I'm just wondering if I can still get one thru mattamy? I'm phase 6 closing December 2009, house is still dirt, does anybody know if this is possible?

It might be possible, but I would call quickly. Have you already had all of your design centre appointments? I would imagine that they can still add it for you.

We had contacted Mattamy a few months back for adding a fireplace, but they said 'NO' since we hadn't done it at the time of our appointments:(. Anyway no harm in giving them a call and trying your luck........:)

Sven as long as you didnt have your structural appointment done it shouldnt be a problem! if the house is still dirt it would only help your case! When and if you have or had your structural appoitment you hav e10 days from then to make any changes! Also they would let you do it at your design appointment as well!
Give them a call if you already had your appointment otherwise wait for it and then get it!
Did you already get your design booklet!

Hey sven

You close in December and already had your design appointmentS???
Im also phase 6 townhouse closing in December and havent heard anything from Mattamy since I bought back in may.

I won't be be getting a firplace through mattamy, the cost is a bit much for something Ill rarely if ever use. Besides I always have the option of getting one after closing for much less if I choose.

Hi Sven, Danny.

Good to hear more phase 6 people are coming on.....LOL

My design appointment is already booked for the end of Feb. I got my design guide in November.

I am phase 6, lot 6-6 southgate end.

I am going with the corner fireplace. I think it will fit the layout better.

My closing is Oct 15.

Have either of you heard when they will start construction in Phase 6.

If you haven't had either one of those appts yet then you will definitely be fine to add it at your structural appointment...that's when they ask you for those types of options. The only thing that you miss out on by not doing it at time of purchase is the additional credit that you would get at the design centre.

So you're moving in on the 9th of December? That's my birthday! You'll have to make sure that you stop by with a gift for me. :p
