View Full Version : townhouse appliance upgrades
Hi Townhouse owners:
We all got 3 GE appliances when we purchased. I believe when we have our design appointment we will be given a coupon to take to the Vaughn GE design showroom to decide what appliances we want.
For those of you close to closing, did you upgrade the appliances. I might upgrade the fridge and stove. The dishwasher I am not that concerned about. I was thinking about getting a fridge with the bottom freezer drawer.
Did any of you upgrade your appliances. If you did waht was the approximate cost.
Are there any GE stores in KW area that we can go to without having to drive to Vaughn.
For those of you with the Cocoa cabinets did you upgrade to stainless or use balck or white.
Did any of you upgrade to the micro/hood fan.....i am not sure what the advantage is other than it might free up counter space.
Thanks!
Jason

We upgraded the stove and dishwasher. It cost us $499 extra ($299 for stove, flat cooktop, selfcleaning and $150 for talltub electronic dw + taxes). We were unhappy with the GE fridges. To get a french door bottom mount with icemaker, would have cost close to $3000 in upgrade costs...We ended up finding a Samsung at Goemans that met all of our criteria for less than 1/2 of that. But we couldn't delete the fridge so now we have an extra 18 cu ft fridge. (Beer fridge?)
We went with black as I hate the fingerprints that you get on stainless.
You can look on geappliances.com and then email mabe and ask for the prices to upgrade if you don't want to drive to Vaughan.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
ETA - we bought a black Panasonic OTR microwave that we are going to be installing ourselves right after closing to replace the hood fan.
Hi,
I like the idea of a cooktop................that would likely look a lot better than a regular oven..............
Do you know the model numbers of the cook top, and the oven...............
I guess i wont be upgrading the fridge right now........LOL..............
I am thinking electeric......................................... ..
Thanks,

$3000.. out of our price range
We got this one for $1399
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=homeappliances&type=refrigerators&subtype=frenchdoor&model_cd=RF265ABBP/XAC
The GE ones were nowhere near that close in price.
Unless you want all the brands to match (I don't care) then I would consider shopping around.
Here are the other appliances we chose...
This was $299 extra
http://geappliances.ca/jsp/ge_Features.jsp?model_id=55739&product_id=6&cmb_Brands=---&cmb_Colours=---&cmb_496=---&cmb_565=---&cmb_PriceMax=---&cmb_PriceMin=---&count=&x=&y=
And this was $151 extra
...I give up...go to geappliances.ca and search for model GLD4209LBB

No, you are right - they aren't there. You can find them other places online by googling those model numbers. I guess GE doesn't want to advertize their bottom-of-the-line models.
Anyway, I copied and pasted those numbers directly from the Mabe invoice I had emailed to me last week....so I know they're right.
