My husband and I purchased a coronation elevation C. Wondering if anyone else purchased one and if they made any changes/upgrades?

Colleen and I have the Coronation, elevation A. We both loved the all-brick elevation you have but I wanted to have my front porch and she caved.

We havent done many upgrades, mostly in the kitchen. Kitchen pantry, corner cabinets, pot drawer and upgraded to a raised panel, series 3 cabinet. Doing crown molding on cabinets after close. We added a light over the sink and 45 degree tile.

We're planning on installing staggered cabinets like the model home. To install 2 taller (36") corner cabinets and a taller one above the stove is $471 thats for 8 foot ceilings. All of the remaining cabinets would be 30" tall. To just do the bigger corners it would be $336.

Other than the kitchen and a fireplace gathering we just did underpad, basement rough-in,and a couple of extra functional windows. We deleted the kitchen bulkhead and the kneewall by the powder room as well.

There were lots of wants but we're trying to stick to a budget. There were things cheaper afterwards that we're going to do like put glass french doors on our master retreat...can do it for 50% of what the builder wants.

What about yourselves? I am curious to see a few Coronations bricked...we have a good idea what we want but are hoping to see a life-sized example.

Is this normal? my garage and basement door has different height/size, it is so obvious the basement trim is higher than garage. I have not raise this issue yet to the builder, just need to make sure .. I have Coronation Elev B

I am guessing its the same on all Coronations, possibly all models. Our basement door is about an inch or 2 taller than the garage door. I hadnt noticed it before. We are in a Coronation elevation A.

I went to model home to check, the doors and trims on both garage and basement has same height...

I will continue to raise the issue to the builder next week.

We have the same issue, we noticed that the other day. We have the Stonehurst elevation A. When you come in from the side, and the basement stairs are right there, there is a definate difference between the two doors.
We can understand, that the garage door is a steel door, and the basement
door is standard, but when trimming the two doors facing one/another you would of thought some thought would be given to the trimming out. I am going to ask about this also, if it can be fixed.

We have a steel door from the garage and a regular interior door right next to it for the rear closet. They are exactly the same height. There is no door to the basement because we got the Next Step which makes the stairs open. Our house is a Northridge Elevation D.

Is it possible the doors are exactly the same height but something is not level making them appear different? If that is the case, the builder should try to use additional trim or something to make them appear the same. You might have to put this on your 30 day warranty form before they'll fix it.

We got the next step too so we don`t have the 2 doors next to each other but I would think this is completely unacceptable as the model home obviously has the same height.

I went to Construction office to raise my concern, the guy name Dave came with me in the house... he said he will get contractor to bring down the basement door to align with garage door.... I will post picture when done.

My Wife and I bought a Coronation "c" all brick. We lose the porch but are happier with the all brick facade.

For upgrades we purchased the following:

9 ft ceilings
Fireside Gathering
Rec room ready with 3pc rough in
Oak Staircase

Model Kitchen
2 glass corner cabinets
Pot drawers

Frameless glass shower
6 foot soaker tub

Hardwood on main floor
upgraded underpad on upper floor

4 pack of bell jacks

We went with included cabinets, tiles, fixtures. Reasonable selection, just takes some time to match all the pieces together. The design centre staff were quite helpful.

We're looking forward to seeing the completed product

We are still trying to decide on what we want to upgrade. We are trying to stick kind of close to our "freebie" budget, but it gets a bit hard.

Trying to decide if we go with the Model Family Kitchen, or just get a 36"x24" Pantry added next to the fridge.

So many upgrades... so little money

You get a base house and I mean BASE without springing for any major upgrades. Its best to get the ones that are structural done as they are most important. Mattamy does charge alot for their upgrades although somethings are worth the price on their own to save the hassle later.
But things such as the carpets and especially the underpad are bottom basic that you get.
It definately is exciting though and even after close I can still think of things I should of done when I bought!

We got the model family kitchen and it was by far my favorite upgrade. The extra cabinet space with the pantry and the extra 6 cabinets you get with the desk go along way its amazing and its so nice to have that desk to work on with our laptop. I would definfietly say worth every penny.

FYI: We got the clove cabinets and if I had to do it over would not have picked this. The coronation has soooo many windows and I have to dust the kitchen cabinets every day because you see the dust everywhere. Looks great but if I knew then what I know now, would change it in a heat beat.

We picked the Model family kitchen as well, handy to have extra storage, and if you glass door the uppers like in the model, it looks nice. Also a really good selling feature if you ever want to move.

One thing i noticed, the Model has an extra window on the side of the great room. This is not on the plans, nor is it available as an upgrade. We got lucky because we side onto backyards to the left, would have been nice to have the extra light. Coronation still has lots of windows, but them adding that one in the model "for show" i find misleading.

We've picked some of our upgrades (first appointment) and I decides to go with the standard kitchen, but removed the wall beside the fridge and added 3' of 24" deep pantry and then 5' of 12" deep pantry.... we are going to have lots of storage. :) I think this will be nice, everyone says they would love extra storage in their kitchen.

I haven't posted in a while but I do regularly check the forums. We went for our second appointment yesterday and finalized all our colour choices. So here are all the upgrades we went with:

9' ceilings on main floor
Fireside gathering in great room
Model family kitchen layout
Rec room ready with 3 piece rough in
Maple railing stained mirage umbria
Square pickets on railing
Victorian Newell post
Entrance elegance (structural square column)
Model linen station layout
stainless steel micorwave hood fan
fridge cold water line
increase 3/4" gas line to 1"
conduit from basement to attic
whirlpool tub with 6 jets
capped ceiling box and seperate switch for light above our whirlpool tub
frameless glass shower door
upgraded underpad throughout
trim package 2
upgraded cabinet hardware in kitchen
kitchen backsplash (olympia tumbled marble travertine)
upper angled corner cabinets (x2)
large crown moulding on uppers
recessed valence
deep upper over fridge
staggered cabinets on uppers
roll out drawers in pantry

We also deleted the knee wall by the hall closet and are going with the full wall as in the model, we're installing a home security system and we've deleted all ceramic bath accessories so we can put in whatever we like later.

My hubby and I are not crazy about hardwood but we may choose to do that in the dining room/parlour area in the future. We went with maple cocoa cabinets in the monterey style for our kitchen and the counter top will be travertine.
Overall we're pleased with all of our choices. There were a lot of things we would have loved to do but couldn't justify the cost. And there were some things we went ahead and did because we knew it would be worth the money from our previous home building experience. We asked Christine what the most someone had spent on upgrades was and she said $146 000!!!!! Craaaaazzzy!!!!

Just make sure your staggered cabinets are deeper than the rest. We made the mistake of not spelling it out for them and ours are staggered, but the same depth making crown moulding difficult if not impossible. The only solution they offered was crown moulding on the higher cabinets and a decorative valence turned upside-down on the rest of them.
